This Labour Day, as always, we celebrate workers and the contributions they make to create the Canada we are all so proud of.
This Labour Day we recognize the challenges we face with the U.S. demands for new trade arrangements that will hurt Canadian workers, particularly in key sectors such as Auto, Steel, Aluminum and Forestry. Thousands of hard-working Canadians face uncertainty and this Labour Day we pledge to stand with these workers, in urging our governments to stand up for them.
Beyond trade issues, we also face the ravages of climate change and the pain it has caused many working families across the country through floods and forest fires. In such times of calamity it is important for all of us to come together and support all efforts to protect and where necessary to rebuild communities.
As always, our labour movement remains focused on securing legislative protections for all workers including temporary foreign workers and the many who face uncertainty through massive expansion of Artificial Intelligence. As trade unionists we call on all governments to protect vulnerable and insecure workers though legislation that puts the interests of workers first.
The Manitoba Federation of Union Retirees (MFUR) is affiliated with the 500,000 member Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC). We support comprehensive services for seniors, and we support fully, the aims, objectives and campaigns of Manitoba’s trade union movement.
